ARTIST STATEMENT

It's an infrequent spectacle to behold the waterfall gracefully spilling down the side of what is now known as the Helensburgh Glow Worm Tunnel in New South Wales.

This abandoned rail tunnel, nestled in the heart of Helensburgh, stands as a silent witness to a time gone by. The tunnel has now become a popular tourist attraction, renowned for its enchanting blue glow and the ghost stories surrounding it.

Over the years, nature has reclaimed its dominion over this artificial marvel, with lush greenery enveloping the entrance and a waterfall cascading down its side. While a common occurrence, this waterfall rarely aligns with other atmospheric conditions to create a truly magical scene.

I was fortunate enough to capture this elusive moment on this particular day. The waterfall was in full flow, framed against the tunnel’s mysterious interior backdrop, creating a scene that felt almost otherworldly. It was a stark reminder of the beautiful paradox this place represents - a monument to human achievement slowly reclaimed by nature's relentless march.

While the Helensburgh Glow Worm Tunnel is a sight to behold at any time, there's something extraordinary about witnessing it under these perfect conditions. Moments like these remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place - the ability to seize fleeting moments of beauty and immortalise them forever.
