ARTIST STATEMENT

Trentham Falls is one of Victoria's longest single-drop waterfalls, plunging some 32 metres over ancient basalt columns—winter sees Trentham at its most spectacular, with winter rain creating its strongest flow. But most people see the falls during the day.

This shot was taken about one hour after sunset. I had been exploring Trentham Falls for most of the afternoon and testing locations I had in mind for some astrophotography. As twilight faded, the stars above lit up the night sky. It is incredible to watch landscapes change in different light. As the sun descended over the horizon, it created a slight glow in the night sky. That soft glow and a long exposure were enough to make that soft illumination of the landscape.

I find the night sky calming, looking up at the stars and dreaming of a better tomorrow.
