About the photograph
A peculiar sight caught my attention as I was journeying back home to Melbourne along the Hume Highway. A vibrant yellow glow adorned the horizon, painting the sky with hues of gold. Being raised on a farm, I instantly recognised it as Canola - a surprising sight considering the season was almost over for thriving crops.
There's something truly magical about the blend of canola fields against the backdrop of clear blue skies. As we drew closer, a debate waged in my mind - should I stop and capture this beauty or keep on my journey? An isolated tree standing tall atop a hill, a few fluffy white clouds scattered across the sky... The picturesque scene made my decision for me. At the very last minute, I pulled over.
I love daytime photography; something about the natural light resonates with my style. I eagerly framed up the shot, yet something was amiss. I returned to my vehicle and rummaged through my gear for my telephoto lens. A few minutes later, the missing piece fell into place. That solitary cloud aligned perfectly with the hill, and all the elements started to synchronise.
The result was a breathtaking picture that captured not just the landscape's beauty but also the moment's serenity and tranquillity. It reminded me of an important lesson as a photographer: If you see a shot, take it. Don't hesitate, don't second guess. Just stop and capture the beauty around you because these moments are fleeting; once they're gone, they're gone forever.
