#EverydayClimateCrisis Visual Petition
The #EverydayClimateCrisis Visual Petition created by Women Photographers Australia, is a powerful visual response to the Australian government's climate change policies. The goal was to collect 1000 images from women and non-binary photographers, each speaking truth to power and presenting climate change from a personal and culturally diverse perspective. Through this project, we hope to advocate for our Australian land, flora and fauna, indigenous cultures and future generations by challenging the current patriarchal power structures within Australia.
What makes this petition unique is that it primarily consists of images and personal statements rather than words or signatures. The power of these images lies in their intimacy and diversity. By showcasing the extensive cultural contribution of women photographic artists in Australia, this project advances contemporary feminist discourse through photography and activism. It also highlights the colonial and patriarchal power structures that have contributed significantly to the climate crisis we face today.
The project's aim is collaboration and inclusivity, which is why we use the word "everyday." We believe that the power of these images lies in their ability to empower girls, women, and non-binary individuals to be part of a collective visual voice. This project provides a positive experience for all involved while advocating for a better future for our planet.
