Story:

I don’t really photograph birds, it’s not that I don’t love them them, it’s more I know nothing about them. The Black Cockatoo is a true icon and without a doubt one of Australia’s most charismatic birds. Taken near Eynesbury, you could go crazy bird watching with how many species are around. On this particular day, I thought I would try to capture a high resolution image of a black cockatoo, I particularly love the colours. But watching this flock hiding away high in the gum trees, feeding on delicious gum nuts, cawing loudly and distincly.

It was fascinating to watch them, watching a one cockatoo preen another, which is as a form of social bonding. They’re so gentle with their huge beaks, and you can really see the attachment between individuals. But its also the playful nature, a juvenile from the flock made a beeline to this cockatoo and attempted to steal the gumnut it was eating. A brief tug-of-war ensued. The juvenile won. It then walked a few steps away and proceeded to drop the gumnut without eating it.

They are truely fascinating.
